Difference between coaching and therapy

Therapy is, generally speaking, for people dealing with a psychological issue that undermines their ability to function in healthy and adaptive ways. The focus is more retrospective and includes repairing damage from previous experiences.  The main focus is on healing, where you are treated as a ‘patient’.

Coaching, on the other hand, has a present -> future orientation, focusing on goals and desired outcomes, drawing on the client’s potential, strengths and skills to maximise fulfilment in life and work. You participate in a co-active process where you are seen as creative, resourceful and whole.
